Investigation Underway After Dozens of Horses Die at Oklahoma Rodeo Stock Business; Faulty Feed Suspected (1)

August 28, 2024

More information has been released regarding the investigation into the deaths of dozens of horses at a western Oklahoma rodeo stock contracting business.

It was announced that the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture is investigating the deaths of horses owned by Beutler & Son Rodeo Company. Veterinarians believe that the horses, which come from deep generational lines, were given faulty feed.

An estimated 40 to 70 horses have died.

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture is investigating the feed, which came from Kansas, after receiving a call from a concerned veterinarian. An inspector from the department visited the ranch on Monday to collect feed samples. However, the cause of death will not be known until the test results come in a couple of weeks.

Beutler & Son supplies horses to rodeos across the country and has done so for nearly a century.

The timing of the incident couldn’t be worse, with the Elk City Rodeo of Champions taking place this weekend. However, it has been reported that other contractors have graciously offered their stock to ensure the rodeo goes on as planned.
